Mangaluru: Robber threatens girl with knife in Sullia, decamps with gold

Sullia, Feb 23: A masked robber entered a house near Sonangeri, in broad daylight on Wednesday February 22, threatened a young girl who was alone in the house and snatched the gold chain and earring before fleeing.

The incident occurred in the house of Devaraj in Tamil colony near Sonangeri. Devaraj and his wife had got up early in the morning and gone for rubber tapping. Their daughter Deeksha was alone in the house.

The masked robber, who knew it, first hurled a stone on the cement sheet in front of the house. When Deeksha came out hearing the sound, the robber held a nearby knife at her neck, threatened her and asked for the gold Deeksha was wearing. While Deeksha gave him the gold chain and earring ‘Bendole’, the robber demanded her other earrings ‘Ole’. When Deeksha told him that those cannot be removed, the robber then ransacked the house, and fled to the road in front of the house and into the forest.

The robber spoke in Kannada. The incident happened at around 8.30 am. The suspect threw the knife in the forest about 150 meters away from the house while fleeing. Deeksha, a PUC student at a private college in Sullia had a holiday ahead of her examination.

The dog squad and forensic experts arrived and conducted preliminary investigations. Sullia police circle inspector Krishnayya, assistant circle inspector Chandrashekar H V, crime SI Purushothama and police staff visited the spot.

Sullia police have registered a case and are on the hunt for the suspect.
