Mangalore, Feb 26: Clubs and communities are formed often out of either passion or necessity, but once in a blue moon it is of both. Intended radio listeners' club of U Rama Rao, a retired employee of
Karnataka Bank, is an example of this blend of passion and necessity.
The idea of having an exclusive club for radio lovers 'stroke his mind' around two years ago when he learnt of an exclusive club for radio lovers at Bangalore.
The club's prime focus is not 'anti-TV campaign,' but bringing lovers of radio together. When asked about the objective of the intended club, Rao said the club offers a link between people involved in programme
production and listeners.
The club has plans to organize lectures for the media students and students who do not study media-related subjects but love media. Members joined will be taken to nearby Radio stations to let know about how radio stations function.
He appreciates his wife for her invaluable support in materializing the dream of having the exclusive forum. He seems to be optimistic of the success of the club as the district has four FM channels at present. The club invites membership from radio lovers cutting across choices.
The club has neither troublesome enrolling process nor hassle of membership fee. Members are expected to provide contact details to the forum for communication.
The forum also provides opportunities to those who want to give programmes on air but denied of chance. Thus the forum would be a boon to members in all respects, Rao opines.
If anyone is interested to join the club, he or she can take part in the inaugural ceremony of the club to be held on March 1 at SDM College or can contact organizers at 0824 2455719, between 2 pm to 5 pm, Rao informed.
