Bantwal, Oct 22: The headmistress of Balavikasa English Medium School in Vidyanagar, Peraje, D Supriya, has been recognised with the prestigious state-level "Vidyaratna" award by the Karnataka Recognised Unaided Private Schools Association (RUPSA).
The award was presented at a ceremony that took place on Monday, October 21 at Jubilee International School in Bengaluru, in the presence of Karnataka’s Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Madhu Bangarappa.
With over 15 years of experience in the education field, Supriya has shown exceptional dedication not only to academics but also to extracurricular activities. As a Guide Captain for the past eight years, she has trained numerous students, helping them achieve state-level recognition. Her initiatives have led to successful events, including essay writing, speech competitions, poetry gatherings, and cultural programmes. Notably, she wrote the script for the science play "Yantra Yana," performed by her students.
An accomplished poet herself, Supriya has conducted poetry gatherings for students and has been recognised for her recitations at state-level poetry events. With over a hundred events to her credit, she has earned the title of "Best Anchor." Additionally, she has provided voiceovers for educational documentaries and is a beloved Kannada teacher among her students.
Previously, Supriya served as a teacher and later as vice-principal at Indraprastha Vidyalaya in Uppinangady. She is now acknowledged for her contributions to education and has received the "Vidyaratna" award from Bantwal for the 2024-25 academic year.
Holding a postgraduate degree in Kannada, Supriya resides in Jeppu, Mangaluru, with her husband, Vasanth Kumar, who works as an Assistant Executive Engineer at Mescom.
