Mangalore, Feb 24: It is absolutely baseless that the culture of Tulu Nadu is inferior to other cultures, said Dr K Chinnappa Gowda, faculty, department of Kannada of Mangalore University.
He was addressing the gathering at Tulu folk and cultural variety competitions, organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, here at SDM College auditorium, on Sunday February 24.
In his response to the performances by troupes from various parts of the district, Gowda said both viewers and performers have equal responsibility. The audience should assume that the performance is a macrocosm of the original tradition and performers, in turn should present the cultural performances, in order to inspire the audience to see the rituals in the true form, he added.
Pupils and students should not think that the traditional rituals and culture of Tulu Nadu is inferior to the other genre of arts and culture, like that of comparing Bhutakola to Bharatanatyam and arriving at the conclusion that the latter one is more refined, he suggested.
M K Sitaram Kulal, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, delivered the presidential address.
Peroor Jaaru, a renowned speaker, Ganesh Amin Sankamar and others were present on the occasion.
