Bhatkal, Feb 18: A man residing at Azad Nagar in the town died under suspicious circumstances. The police personnel, who were unable to decide whether this was a case of suicide or murder, subjected the concerned to questioning. As per the current indications, they have strong reasons to believe that the wife of the man was behind this murder.
The deceased man has been identified as Mohammed Nassir Mastan (35). He had married the second time without the consent of his first wife. The issue of his second marriage often became the subject matter of the fight between the duo. The first wife of the man, identified as Reshma Khanam, is said to have confessed to the police that she killed her husband by tightening her veil around his neck when he was sleeping.
Initially, the police had treated this as a case of suicide. After the general public and leaders of some local social service organizations expressed doubt that it could be a case of murder, the police changed the angle of their investigation and subjected the first wife of the deceased to interrogation. During her questioning, truth was revealed, police sources said.
The police personnel of the town station here have registered the case and taken up investigation.
