Udupi, Feb 15: A sea of devotees thronged at St Antony’s Shrine, Kerekatte on the occasion of the feast of St Antony’s Relic on Wednesday February 15.
Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, offered the festive mass.
Fr Vijay Machado, Director of Mangala Joythi , Mangaluru in his homily said that, “We have gathered here to praise God and to hear his words. Udupi Diocese has dedicated this year for Lectio Divina, which means ‘to read and spread the Word of God’. Love, peace, patience, unity and word of God can make all things possible. Let us read, believe, live and proclaim the word of God. It is life giving and inspiring.”
Further he said, “The Word of God is the conversation between us and God and it is the relationship built between us with God. Word of God makes us active, gives courage and encourages living life accordingly.”
“St Antony was strong in his faith and lived his life as per the word of God. Bible stands for the basic instructions before our heavenly abode. Let us read the bible everyday and reflect on it in our day to day life. Let us try to change ourselves, understand the word of God and live as per the words of Christ,” he concluded.
Kerekatte shrine director Fr Xavier Pinto, other priests from different parishes of Kundapur and Udupi diocese were concelebrants.
On the occasion, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo sought the blessings of St Antony on all devotees present and congratulated the shrine director.
To commemorate this occasion, the Holy Eucharist and St Antony Novena was celebrated. Shrine director Fr Xavier Pinto thanked all the priests and the devotees present on the occasion.
The Bishop distributed candles and the sponsors were felicitated during the celebration of the Feast of St Anthony’s Relic.
Thousands of people of different denominations thronged at the shrine and sought blessings, offering flowers and lighting candles.
