M'lore: All Schools, Anganawadis to have Toilets by March 15

Mangalore, Feb 19: Central government officials have directed the state authorities to construct toilets in all the schools and anganawadis across the State. This target will be achieved within the stipulated period, said S D Meena, commissioner of Karnataka Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency.

Speaking to media persons on Tuesday February 19, districts like Shimoga, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi have done well under sanitation scheme. Meanwhile, many districts of North Karnataka are lagging behind in this regard. The change of mindset and every ones participation is needed to achieve cent per cent sanitation in the state, he appealed.

Good sanitation will put positive impact on health and hygiene. Therefore, Self-Help Groups will also be included as motivators in sanitation campaign, Meena added.

The Agency had a target of 53 lac households in the state, to achieve the construction of toilets. So far, a total of 13 lac toilets have been constructed under total sanitation campaign, he informed.

Earlier, he had participated in the state-level workshop on total sanitation campaign which was held at Hotel Moti Mahal auditorium for 2 days.
