Mangalore, Feb 17: Belthangady and Sullia town panchayats will now house two newly elected presidents. Baby of the Congress and N.A. Ramachandra of the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) have been elected presidents of the Belthangady and Sullia town panchayats respectively.
While at the same time Hazeera of the Congress and Sundari Narayana of the BJP were elected vice-presidents of the same two civic bodies respectively.
It may be noted that BJP members had earlier boycotted the election process in Belthangady.
The Congress has seven members and the BJP four in the 11-member House of Belthangady. While in the Sullia town panchayat, BJP had nine out of a
total strength of 18 members. But now, with the induction of the independent candidate, Gopal into the BJP, its strength has gone up-to 10.
Dinesh Ambekallu of the Congress was defeated by Ramachandra (BJP) by a margin of 3 votes, securing 11 votes, with the former getting 8 votes.
