Mangaluru, Feb 5: Preparations for Lokotsava and awards ceremony being organized under the aegis of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy have been going on in full swing. Rehearsals by cultural committee are in progress at Kodialbail Bishop’s House auditorium. Veteran music maestro of Konkani, Eric Ozario, and Vasanthi R Nayak have been guiding the practice sessions of a team comprising 75 persons.
Chappara Muhurtha:
The 'Chappara Muhurtha'of Konkani Lokotsava is scheduled to be held at Town Hall lawn onFebruary 8 at 9 am. The organizers have extended invitations to a number of dignitaries including journalists for this function.
Konkani Lokotsava – 2017 programmes at a glance:
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy works for the growth of Konkani language, literature and culture. The Academy is holding Konkani Lokotsava on Feb 10, 11 and 12 to help present cultural heritage of 41 communities which have Konkani as their mother tongue. Several programmes showcasing richness of Konkani literature and culture are proposed to be presented at the three day long programme.
Diverse folklore arts of various Konkani communities will be on display at the programme. Several artistic dances, literary discussions, poet’s conference, soulful singing with touch of originality, and literary seminars will be held. Ten people each spread over four groups, viz. children, women, youth and men, who have made outstanding achievements with Konkani as their mother tongue will be honoured on the occasion.
Traditional attire of Konkani, exhibition stalls of traditional items, exhibition of unique and delicious food stalls, exhibition of items of daily use and sale are arranged.
February 10: Festival of children and women
The programme will be inaugurated in the presence of several politicians and dignitaries, by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai. The inaugural of Lokotsava programme will be presided over by MLA, J R Lobo. Children’s literary and cultural programmes are scheduled to be held on that day. Children and women who have carved out an identity for themselves at national level and state level through different talents will be felicitated on the day.
February 11: Yuvajanotsava
The programme will be presided over by the state minister for large and medium scale industries, R V Deshpande. Several leading personalities from Dakshina Kannada district will participate in the programme. On this occasion, an impressive procession depicting Konkani folklore and culture will be taken out from Balmatta Mission compound. Different art forms will be exhibited during the procession by nearly 400 artistes. Primarily Siddi, Kudmi, Kharvi, Huluswara, Mestha, Daldi, Kumbara, Janapada art forms, instruments like band, Chende, Dollu, Piano and tableaux representing various art forms will form part of the procession. Cine actor, Ester Noronha,will inaugurate the procession in the presence of several notable people.
Cultural programme by college students, quiz, discussion on youth literature, seminar etc will be held on the occasion. Youth who have become popular on state and country level will be honoured on the occasion.
February 12: Festival of all Konkani speaking people
The day is reserved for literary and cultural exhibition of all Konkani people. Konkani groups and organizations will present attractive dances, exhibition of folklore art forms by people selected from among Kudubi, Kharvi, Siddi, Daldi and other communities. Poets conference, magic with poems and brush, play, group song and comedy programmes will be presented. People who have risen to fame on national and state level will be felicitated. A discussion will be held for winners of awards as part of honorary awards, the Academy said in its press note.
