Udupi, Feb 4: Four persons, who have been accused of breaking open the locked door of a house at Maskibail, Barkur near Brahmavar in the taluk and making good their escape with gold ornaments, were arrested by a team of district crime intelligence bureau (DCIB) on Friday February 3.
The arrested men have been identified as Prahlad Poojary (23) from Golibettu, Airody village, Sastan, Prashant G (24), resident of Sastan, Gundmi and two minors. A gold chain, bracelet, ring and a pair of earlobes stolen by them have been confiscated from their possession, apart from Rs 2,560 in cash and a car used during the crime. The total weight of the ornaments seized happens to be 19.42 grams and its value has been assessed at Rs 58,000. The car is worth about five lac rupees.
Prahlad Poojary already faces two old theft cases, one relating to snatching of chain at Koteshwar from a woman and theft in his own house. Both these cases are now being heard by a court at Kundapur. The other accused, Prashant, too has been accused of partnering with Prahlad Poojary in the chain snatching case at Koteshawar.
