Mangaluru, Feb 4: Sea of devotees gathered at Car Street here on Friday Feburary 3 to take part in the grand annual Car Festival or Kodial Teru of Shree Venkataramana Temple.

The five-day event of the Gowd Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) community is a commemoration of the divine union of Lord Venkataramana and Goddess Padmavathi. Pomp and gaiety marked the occasion as thousands participated in the festivities.

The idol of lord Veera Venkatesh was installed on the golden palaquin and raised in celebration by the devotees together while being taken round the outer perambulatory path of the temple, accompanied by musical instruments, bhajans and chants by the devotees.

The deity's idol was then installed in the decorated chariot and taken around the Temple Square amid the chanting of 'Srimad Ramaramana Govinda, Govinda' and music rendered by bands.

Earlier, ceremonial ablution (Abhisheka) of the deities was performed with tender coconut water and holy water. Rituals such as Gangabhisheka, Panchamrita and Shatakalashabhisheka were also performed.
