Mangaluru: Attempts to bring stay order on city mayoral election

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Feb 1: It has been reliably learnt that attempts are being made to bring a court stay on the mayoral election likely to be held next month.

As per sources, a corporator has started the process to approach High Court  in Bengaluru with a writ petition to bring a stay order to the impending election.

The election should be held before March 12.

Mayor post has been reserved for a woman while the deputy mayor post has been reserved for a person from schedule caste. The writ petition planned, will question the reservation policy for the mayor post.

During the initial period of the current administration of Mangaluru City Corporation, a stay order had delayed the mayoral election by a year. That stay order too had questioned the reservation policy.
