Bangalore, Feb 14: This youth tried doing the Sholay Dharmendra stunt threatening to jump off a building, trying to convince his lady love to accept his marriage proposal.
His bid failed. Not only did he have to contend with a broken heart. He ended up with broken limbs too.
Twenty-two-year-old Kumar, a labourer and resident of Byatarayanapura jumped off the third floor of Big Bazaar shopping complex on Mysore Road on Wednesday afternoon, in Byatarayapura police station limits. Attempts by his parents and onlookers to get him down went in vain.
The youth, who left his house at 7 am, was found on top of the building and was threatening to jump off the roof. The girl is working at Big Bazaar.
He gained entry into the building by posing as a labourer, as some construction work was in progress on the third floor.
The police, who rushed to the spot, also tried to persuade him to get off. “He was very adamant and after 20 minutes, he jumped off. We could not wait for the fire tenders to arrive. We had laid carpets on the ground and he fell onto them,” said a police official.
Kumar was rushed to Victoria Hospital. Police said he sustained fractures in his leg and arm and is out of danger. Police have registered a case of attempt to suicide.
