Mangaluru Jan 29: AK Group and Apple Plywood in association with Architects Guild on Saturday January 28 presented the Delhi Furniture Interior Design Awards 2016 in a splendid and informative ceremony held at Hotel Taj Gateway here.
Addressing the gathering, founder and director of 'Under the Mango Tree' Gaurav Sharma said, "I am absolutely delighted to be part of this award function. Interior is meant for everyone and it effects us on a daily basis. In this age of globalisation places are changing because of standardised levels and every interior looks quite similar over and over again.
"Place plays an important role in interior as the idea of a place, building, character and history of building is also vital. I underscore cultural context, as culture is manifested with certain place, for example, pink symbolises Jaipur.
"Planet sustainiability can be divided into three tenets - revise, reduce and recycle. When interior is produced energy is consumed. For example, in a building that is 300 years old, you can bring in the idea of reuse to make it better," he said.
"The idea of interior should be playful and interesting as it touches us on a daily basis. The quality of interior uplifts the atmosphere and elevates the mood which is very important," he added.
Gaurav Sharma mentioned that among his projects is Dhar View, Shimla which was 150-years old and abondoned for quite some time, was an example of how 'you can play with age value of the building by highlighting its old textures'. Institute of Making in London, Park Hotel Pune and Sujan Singh Park, New Delhi are examples where old flats have been converted to serviced flats."
The event was hosted by Seif Sulthan, CEO of Hikmah International Academy, while Billal Rauf proposed the vote of thanks.
