Kuwait, Jan 28: On the occasion of the 68th Indian Republic Day celebrations in Kuwait, Bharatiya Pravasi Parishad (BPP) organised Republic Day function on Friday January 27 at the Co-operative Society Hall in Jleeb Al Shyoukh from 5:30 pm onwards. The event was filled with variety of programmes such as songs, dances and Republic Day messages from the dignitaries.
The programme started with introduction by compere of the evening Ashwitha Surendra Poojary and Ravin Singh followed by National anthem of Kuwait and India. The event was formally inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by guests of the day Major Praveen Raj, Dr Azad Ismail Saheb (scientist and writer), Satheeshchandra Shetty (Oriental Goup of Companies), Colonel Naser Mohammed and BPP president Rajashekaran.
After welcoming the guests to dias, Suresh Salian sang "Vande Matharam". Joint secretary and programme coordinator Raj Bhandary welcomed the audience. After the presidential speech by BPP president Rajashekaran, Major Praveen Raj was honored with Momento and Shawl by Vijaya Raghavan, Babu Bhai, Sampath, Sarath and other dignitaries. Retired army officer Subba Raj was also honored with shawl. An inspiring video on the Indian army, prepared by Major Praveen Raj, was presented to the audience.
Major Praveen Raj in his speech said that the Indians working in Gulf should be proud as they too are contributing to the nation like the army. "If soldiers stay away from their families and contribute to the country by serving in defense, NRIs too stay away from their country and families and contribute to the economy of India. After my IAS, I was confused whether to join army or work as an IAS officer. As the present youth are dying more in accidents than the army men at border, I convinced my mother and joined the army," he said. His speech was most humorous, informative, sentimental and inspiring. He also remembered the soldiers who gave their life for nation and specially one who died to save his life during a fight at border.
Dr Azad Ismail Saheb in his speech explained how India is a role model for the world. Satheeshchandra Shetty spoke a few words on democracy of India. First contribution for welfare fund "Snehanidhi" was given by Rajendran Pillai during the event. Haribalapuram introduced state-wise coordinators.
Variety of songs in different languages of India were sung by Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2010 Gladys Lorena, Suresh Salian, Irene, Anuraj, Razzak, Tijo Antony and Siju Mohan (Elanza Events Management). Foot-tapping dances were presented by Dancing Divas (Dandia), Aleena & Archana, DK dance World and Panjabi Bangda. The story of India "Saga of a Nation" choreographed by Deepa and Deepthi, which portrayed national heroes, freedom fighters, patriotism and different dance forms, was appreciated by everyone. The well arranged programme filled with entertainment and messages from patriots and nationalists on the importance of the day came to an end with the National Anthem of India.
