Shivamogga, Jan 28: A girl tried to commit suicide in the presence of state revenue minister, Kagodu Thimmappa, on Friday January 27. It is said that she could not handle emotions arising out of the land dispute that has been tormenting her family.
The girl in question has been identified as Nayana (17), a diploma student from Anjanapur in Shikaripur taluk of the district.
It is learnt that Gurulingappa from Shikaripur taluk, who is involved in a long-drawn land dispute with his extended family, had come with family members to approach the minister for relief. He wanted to hand over a memorandum to the minister, drawing his attention to the fact that the family is being made to undergo harassment unnecessarily in spite of the documents and records being clearly in his favour.
The girl, who was said to be unhappy at the lacklustre response of the minister to their plight, took out a bottle containing poison she had brought with her and consumed some of it. She was immediately taken to the government Mcgann Hospital in the town where she is reported to be recovering.
