Mangalore, Feb 9: A book entitled 'A Guide to Land Legislations' authored by noted senior advocate and notary L D Ballal was released here on Friday, February 8.
High court judge Justice K L Manjunath released the book at a function convened at the SDM Law college and centre for post graduate studies of law. The function was presided over by V C Hatti, principal district sessions judge.
'This book is a self-contained guide for the day-to-day affairs of the common man,' informed Justice Manjunath on the occasion. According to him, the author of the book had made laws easy to understand and the book will prove beneficial to officers, advocates and the common man.
Appreciating the contribution of Ballal, Justice Manjunath said its rare for people to write books on law particularly in Kannada, and lauded him for venturing into a such an endeavor. Further he informed that the state legal services authority too had brought out certain useful books on legal services beneficial to the society at large.
Deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao in his speech pointed out that even after several decades of land reforms, people still did not have a clear picture of the laws of the land. In this context he expressed his desire to publish some excerpts from Ballal's book on the official website of DK district.
Dr B K Raveendra, principal of SDM Law College rued the fact that many officials did not have proper knowledge of legislations, at least coming under their purview. Further he observed that the demand for law books in Kannada was increasing in recent years.
