Mangaluru, Jan 17: 'Wheels on Roll' (WOR), a campus bicycle rent startup was launched at National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Surathkal, on January 16. WOR is a part of green initiative and also to encourage healthy lifestyle among students in the campus.
WOR, is the handiwork of four core team members Amartya Gupta, TK Jeshwenth Raja, Piyush Bansal and Pratyush Giri along with seven other
members who are working hard on a system which would consist fully automated way to dispense bicycles. WOR is incubated under National
Institute of Technology Karnataka- Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (NITK-STEP) and mentored by Anmol Nautiyal, director, IBM Cloud Integration.
The WOR team is aiming to provide single speed and multi-speed bicycles at affordable rents in various academic campuses. As many as 10 bicycles were rolled out on Sunday. The system would be app-based along with website support soon where users can log in and browse for
their requirements.
According to one of the co-founders of WOR, Pratyush Giri, the plan for the coming year is to have more than 500 bicycles in the NITK campus. The makers also plan to install automatic bicycle key vending machine and a customized bicycle parking space with option of long distance rides outside the campus at lower rates.
Various corporate companies and technical clubs and NITK Alumni Association are working alongside with the WOR team to accomplish this task. With help coming accross from all quarters, NITK aims to have healthier students in its campus and also do its bit for the environment.
