Kundapur, Jan 17: Through a notification issued on Monday January 16, the state government has made veteran Congress leader and Byndoor MLA, Gopal Poojary, director and chairman of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. The post is of cabinet minister's rank.
Poojary was elected four times from Byndoor constituency, thrice between 1998 and 2008, and again for the fourth time during the 2013 election. Gopal Poojary, who opted to run a hotel after securing degree, joined Congress party in 1997. He served as member of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee from 1998 to 2010 and president of Udupi district Congress committee since 2010. Poojary has earned admiration and respect for his total loyalty to the party, sincerity and hard work.
Poojary has also carved out a niche for himself in the area of social service. Being the member of VV Education Trust Hemmadi, he was instrumental in taking Janata High School, Swatanta PU College and Rattubai Janata High School Byndoor to great heights. Being the president of Bhadra Mahakali temple at Katbeltoor, he had carried out various development works. As the founder president of Sri Sagar Cooperative Society, he has spread its wings and opened various branches of the society.
Poojary, who has worked honestly for the development of his constituency, takes credit for getting highest amount of grant for this constituency as compared to his predecessors.
Poojary, who expressed elation at having been made chairman of KSRTC, has thanked chief minister, Siddaramaiah, Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, state working president of the party, Dinesh Gundu Rao, transport minister, Ramlainge Gowda and senior leaders of the party. He said he plans to work strenuously towards running the corporation profitably besides honestly trying to improve services being offered to the general public.
