Kundapur, Feb 4: There are a number of fisheries communities in the state, hence, a proposal has been made to the government to allocate a minimum of Rs 300 crore for their betterment, stated G Shanker, entrepreneur and president of Udupi district Youth Mogaveera Sangh.
He was addressing the gathering at the mega convention of fisheries community, held here on Sunday, February 3.
Satynarayan Pawar, MP of Ujjain constituency of Madhya Pradesh said that the country accounts for around 12 crore fisheries community who should be included under ST in order to avail government facilities for the benefit of their future generations.
Vittal Heroor, president of Karnataka Kabbaligara Sangh, an association of all those involved in fisheries trade and processing, urged the community brethren to collectively hold a mega convention in New Delhi in order to demand for better facilities.
K C Amin, Gopalakrishna Suvarna and Manjunath Mogaveer Haklady were felicitated on the occasion.
M Sanjeev, Ajit Suvarna, Pramod Madhwaraj, Karunakar Puthran, Suresh Kanchan, Gopalakrishna Rao, Loknath Boloor, Lalaji R Mendon, Anand C Kunder, UR Sabhapathy were present on the dais.
Satish Koteshwar welcomed the gathering. Chandresh Pithrody compered the programme. Deepakraj Kedekar proposed the vote of thanks.
