B’lore: Manohar Prasad, S K Gulwadi among Media Awardees

The Karnataka Media Academy (KMA) has selected 29 journalists for its silver jubilee award. This announcement was made by the Academy chairman V N Subba Rao at a press meet held here on Friday February 1.Governor Rameshwar Thakur will be presenting the awards at a function in Bangalore City on March 1. The award carries a citation and Rs 10,000 in cash.  

In all, the academy has selected 29 senior journalists, including a cartoonist, two photographers and a media critic, for its annual awards in recognition of their contribution to the field of journalism. Girish Nikam, a freelance journalist based in Delhi, received a Special Award from the Academy.   The awardees are:

Hanumanthappa Patil, Bidar; Ravi Belegare, editor, Hai Bangalore; Nagesh Hegde, former associate editor, Prajavani; Manohar Prasad, Chief of Bureau (COB), Udayvani, Mangalore; Santoshkumar Gulwadi, former editor, Taranga; H B Manjunath, cartoonist; C G Manjula, assistant editor, Sudha, Bangalore;  Gopal Hegde, COB, Prajavani, Hubli; Ilekan Srikhant, ETV Mandya; Madangowda, vice president, Indian Federation of Working Journalists, Hassan; Girija Shankar, editor, Janamitra, Chikkamagalur; Vasudevachar Hulagi, Koppal; Gopal Naik, Samyukta Karnataka, Bijapur; Mallikarjun Heggalige, Bagalkote.

Ramjan Darga, COB, Prajavani, Gulbarga; Srinivas Sirnoorkar, principal correspondent, Deccan Herald, Gulbarga;  Kalyanrao Muchalambi, Belgaum; U M Poovaiah, editor, Brahmagiri, Madikeri; Arun, COB, Indian Express, Bangalore; Saggere Ramaswamy, photographer; M G Prabhakar, editor, Honnudi, Kolar; S Thippeswamy, Photographer; Rajeev Kiriyur, editor, Navodaya, Gadag; Hadu Padu Ramaswamy, senior sub-editor, Andolana, Mysore; Chakravarty Swamy, editor, Sadbhodha Chandrike, Hassan; S N Chandrashekhar, Critic, Bangalore; M Siddaraju, manager, PTI, Bangalore; N Krishnappa, Senior Journalist; and Abbur Rajashekhar, COB, Prajavani, Davanagere.

According to Subba Rao earlier the Academy used to select around 10 to 12 journalists for the awards, however from this year onwards, they decided to give representation to all districts. "Hence the number has risen to 29,” he added.

Academy members Dr Gangadharappa, B Venkat Singh, K S Naganna, K R Manjunath, Rajendra, Chandrashekhar Belagere, and Academy secretary H B Dinesh were also present at the conference.
