Bangalore, Feb 1: Lokayukta police on Thursday raided the premises - both office and residential - of 10 senior government officials across the state and recovered property worth crores disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, who refused to give details, said “The raids have been conducted on definite information and the process is still going on.”
He added that “one of the officers is on a foreign tour, while another is retiring on Wednesday”.
The officers whose houses were raided include: P G Wandkar, Excise Deputy SP, Belgaum. According to Lokayukta police, the officer owns properties worth 700 times more than his known income.
Wandkar owns a residential complex in Goodshed road, besides houses in Gandhinagar, Laxminagar and Hanuman Nagar in Belgaum. A huge shopping complex in the heart of the city is also allegedly his.
D C Rajappa, Additional SP, Bellary. According to Lokayukta police, Rajappa who owns property worth more than Rs 1 crore has a palatial farm house in Harige on the outskirts of Shimoga city.
Lokayukta police reportedly recovered 1.5 kg gold, 5 kg silver, 3.5 lakh cash and papers of five plots including one in Mysore, and two RCC houses in the name of his brothers from his residence at Shimoga. His official quarters in Bellary were also raided.
Pitamber Heraje, SP, Civil Rights and Enforcement Directorate, Gulbarga. His houses in Beltangady and Bangalore and his son-in-laws clinic in Mangalore were raided.
Documents pertaining to property worth Rs 4 crore including a five-acre coconut plantation were recovered.
He owns two flats in Bangalore registered in his wife and mother’s name. About Rs 50,000 cash, 300 gm of gold, and four kg of silver were also recovered from his possession.
Ironically, Heraje had been decorated with the highest President’s medal, for meritorious service.
H K Revanna, Circle Police Inspector, Jagalur circle, Davanagere. He owns a house in Anjaneya Extension in Davanagere.
Raids yielded 1.35 kg of silver and 120 grams of gold ornaments besides Rs 13000 in cash, and a bank balance of Rs 1.50 lakh, from his possession.
He also owns a 13-acre areca garden in Kanchikaranahalli village in Chennagiri taluk.
S B Kolar, director of Mines and Geology. His residences in Bangalore and Dharwad were raided simultaneously.
According to Lokayukta police, he owns a petrol bunk and two weigh bridges in his relatives’ names.
