Ballari, Dec 14: Even as communal tension that had gripped neighbouring Gangavati was brought under control, communal friction occurred at Chittawadgi area of Hospet town on Tuesday December 13 morning. After two groups fought over clearance of banners and flexes, two youth were injured.

Banners and flexes had been hung on account of Eid Milad and Hanuma Jayanti celebrations across the town. The procession of Hanuma devotees and that pertaining to Eid Milad were conducted peacefully. On Tuesday, when banners and flexes were being removed, friction arose between two communities, and both the groups pelted stones at each other. Two youngsters, identified as Kampli Shivu and Shivu were injured. The situation is in control now but Chittawagdi area is wearing a deserted look.

District superintendent of police, R Chetan, and deputy superintendent of police, Kumar Chandra, visited the spot and overlooked measures to control the situation. The officers also held meeting of both the communities, in which the leaders promised the police officers of finding out the culprits responsible for the trouble and bringing them to book. The SP said that more policemen are being deployed to see that no unwarranted incidents happen in the region.

In the meanwhile, over 30 persons were arrested relating to communal clashes at Gangavati and prohibitory orders have been extended till December 18. Addressing a press conference, state additional director general of police (law and order), Alok Mohan, said that there are allegations that two policemen, Kalikrishna and Bheemanagouda Biradar, had worked in support of a particular community and that further steps will be undertaken after inspector general of the region conducts inquiry and submits report.
