Madikeri, Dec 10: Sleuths of anti-corruption bureau have taken into custody PWD assistant executive engineer Jagannath Jadav at his residence here while accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from a contractor who had received a tender for repairs of residential quarters.
ACB officials and staff conducted raid at the residence of PWD AEE near Sudarshan circle in the morning of December 8 while class one PWD contractor Yathish was handing over the bribe. The officials took the engineer into custody with proof and registered a case.
New extension resident in the city, PWD contractor Yathish had received a tender for Rs 23 lac for repairs of four residential quarters near the department of information. “PWD AEE had put forth a demand of Rs four lac toward the project agreement and was also harassing for the money,” alleged Yathish.
Yathish had lodged a complaint with Mysuru ACB on Wednesday evening December 7 that PWD AEE had demanded bribe, said ACB DySP Gajendra Prasad.
Based on the complaint, ACB DySP Gajendra Prasad, investigating officer Vinay, inspectors Gangadhar, Anil Kumar and staff conducted the raid on Thursday morning at around 8.45 am. The PWD officer was arrested when contractor Yathish was handing over currency notes of Rs two thousand amounting to Rs 80 thousand.
