Cops register Dahl’s death as murder

Panaji, Dec 5 (TOI): A case of murder was registered by Canacona police in the suspicious death of Swedish national Felix Dahl on January 28, 2015, in Patnem, Canacona. The FIR was registered against unknown persons in the case.

Speaking to TOI, Canacona PI Filomeno Costa said, “The judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) had directed us to register the murder case and inform the court about the reinvestigation on the lines of murder.”

He added that this was the third time that police were investigating the case. “Probes into the case on the last two occasions led to the conclusion that the death was due to an accidental fall,” he added.

Costa said all the witnesses in the case would be re-examined for the third time to find out the exact cause of death. “Till date, we have not found any clue,” he said.

In October, JMFC Sarika N Fal Dessai had directed the Canacona police to register, within a month of the order, the FIR in the murder case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.

Dahl, who had come to Goa for a holiday in October 2014, is said to have been last seen at a restaurant in Patnem, before his body was found on a quiet gravel road, 200m away from the restaurant. Police were informed by a local who saw Dahl’s body lying in front of her house on January 28, 2015, at 5.30am.

The deceased’s mother, Minna Pirhonen, through her counsel, had told the court that Dahl was murdered and the authorities were reluctant to take cognizance of the murder.

Pirhonen told the court that the investigating authorities have stated that Dahl’s death was caused due to an accidental fall, which was based on imaginary findings.
