Mangaluru: Gang robs cash, ornaments - attacks house owner

Mangaluru, Dec 5: A gang of robbers which forced its way into a house near the Campco quarters at Padil here in the wee hours of Sunday December 4, succeeded in taking away cash and gold ornaments found inside the house. Besides, the robbers also attacked and injured the house owner.

The man who was at the receiving end of this robbery and attack was Bharat Alva, who has been staying here since the last over seven months. On Saturday, his wife had left for her parental house, and Bharat had returned home at about 10 pm after attending a programme. At about 2.30 am, he heard someone knocking at the door. He saw that a gang of three was knocking at his door, and two of the strangers had swords in their hands. As he became fearful, Alva did not open the door.

The gang then broke the door open and came inside. Bharat rushed out from the rear door and raised an alarm. One of the robbers followed him and swung his sword at Bharat, resulting in injury to his knee and hand. The robbers then made good their escape.

Bharat succeeded in waking up his neighbours. He went into his house in their company and saw that things inside the bedroom had been meddled with and spread around. Robbers had taken away a gold chain, a golden bracelet, Rs 2,000 in cash, driving licence and some other documents totally valued at about Rs 50,000, it is learnt.

After they were informed about the development, police personnel from town station at Kankanady rushed to the spot. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts also surveyed the area and collected clues. A case has been registered in the town police station, Kankanady. Investigation has been taken up.
