Margao 16 Jan: Vendors from Gandhi market under the leadership of councillor gheraod chief officer of Margao Municipal Council on Tuesday January 15.

Margao Municipal Council remains always in headlines, as after every 20 or 30 days it faces protest by market people.

It was the same case on Tuesday as some local vendors of Gandhi Market marched towards cabin of chief officer N D Agarwal on Tuesday and gheraod him. But when Agarwal asked them their demands, they just kept mum.

Gherao was led by panchayat minister Manohar Azgaonkar's younger brother Rajendra Azgaonkar, who is a councilor here.

According to Councillor Azgaonkar Municipality has failed to give basic necessities to Gandhi Market and chief officer comes as hurdle to it.

According to chief officer Agarwal these vendors along with councilor Azgaonkar are trying to oust of his office, but they have not succeeded in it. Hence they are now trying to put pressure by way of protests, he added.

Seeing the ruckus in the municipality police were called to the spot.  Dy SP Umesh Gaonker tried to quell the situation, but councilor Azgaonkar vociferously said that he (DySP) does not know anything of the matter and therefore he should not intervene. He even had a verbal clash with DySP.

It is being said that Agarwal has strong hold with politicians in the Congress-led government. So the dramas of gherao go futile everytime.
