Kundapur, Nov 4: Relating to slicing of tyres of three vehicles owned by him, a person from Kandlur here had filed police complaint, naming two persons as accused. Angered at this complaint, the younger brother of the complainant came under life-threatening attack and death threats from the accused. The incident happened at Kandlur in Kavarady gram panchayat near here. Karani Shahid (26), younger brother of Karani Mousheem from Kandlur, suffered serious injuries in this attack, and got admitted into hospital.
Tyres of two cars and a tipper truck belonging to Karani Mousheem had been hit with sharp weapons and deflated on November 1. Mousheem thereafter, filed complaint in the police station in the town, duly naming suspects as Sadaqat (28) and Khaji Aftaf alias Munna (28). It is said that police visited Kandlur on Thursday to question the accused. The visit of police angered Sadaqat and Aftaf. Both of them joined hands with Jummi Jeoffrey (37) and Nissar (30), and armed with swords and other lethal weapons, waylaid Karani Shahid on J M Road in Kadlur to the local rivulet at around 8.30 pm on Thursday. Besides hitting him with arms, they also posed death threats to him before returning, it is learnt.
Shahid, who was seriously injured, was admitted into Chinmayi Hospital here. After initial treatment, he was taken to Adarsha Hospital at Udupi for sophisticated care. A case about this attack was registered in the local station. Police personnel have launched a search for the accused.
In the past, Kandlur had come to be known as communally sensitive area of the region as per police records. However, since some years, the area was enjoying an environment of harmonious coexistence. The above enmity, it is said, has its roots in illegal sand extraction. The fact that members of Muslim community are fighting it out with vengeance has given rise to an environment of disturbed peace at Kandlur. Citizens have urged police department to act to nip the problem in the bud lest Kandlur slips back to its past history of restlessness and frequent fights.
