Udupi, Nov 2: District street vendor’s association on Wednesday, November 2, organized a protest march against Udupi City Municipal Council and demanded to resolve the problems of street vendors in city.
The president of Udupi street vendor association and legal advisor, Vishwanath Rai led the march.
Appealing to City Municipal Council, he said, “The city municipal council should release the carts and weighing machines which are seized by them. Council should also provide proper place for street vendors to sell their goods like the way they have provided place for auto stand and private vehicle parking space.”
“Commissioner of city council should take a survey of city and provide street vendors identity cards and renew it time to time, as per the directives of the state government. There are hundreds of families who directly depend on these jobs.”
“The city municipality should stop violence on street vendors. As per the rules of street vendors (Protection of livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014, the city municipal council has to conduct ‘Samarthya Vardana’ to make street vendors more capable,” he added.
The protesters also handed over a memorandum to commissioner of city municipal council.
President of district street vendor’s association Kaviraj S, president Veeresh, secretary Basavaraj, treasurer Sangamesh and many street vendors participated in the protest march.
