Mumbai, Dec 29: Patrolling, nakabandis and vigilance stepped up in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai in wake of Bhutto assassination

Security agencies in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai have been put on high alert following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan on Thursday evening. City Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) KL Prasad confirmed the alert. “We have asked all police stations and zonal deputy commissioners of police to intensify mobile patrolling, nakabandis and combing operations in their areas,” Prasad said, adding that VVIP’s and places of worships are being guarded in particular. However, he clarified that no additional forces have been pressed into service yet.
No repercussions

K P Raghuvanshi, acting chief of the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), “We do not expect immediate repercussions in wake of the incident in Pakistan. We have however, as a precautionary measure, put all systems on alert.” Said Thane Commissioner of Police D Shivanandan, “All concerned have been instructed to be vigilant and put their intelligence networking on optimum alert.”

Ramrao Wagh, Commissioner of Police Navi Mumbai said he had issued an alert to his men as well.

“We are on alert. While we are intensifying patrolling and Nakabandis, we do not expect any untoward
incident after what happened in Pakistan.”
