Kasargod, Oct 13: Serial political murders have continued in Kannur with a SDPI activist brutally murdered on the afternoon of Thursday, October 13.
Neerchal Farooq (45) is the person deceased.
It is said that a person named Abl Rauf was the one who killed Farooq. Abl Rauf fled from the spot immediately after assaulting Farooq with lethal weapons.
Seriously injured Farooq was rushed to AKG hospital but could not be saved as he succumbed to injuries.
SDPI has accused Muslim League of carrying out the murder.
After the murders of BPP and CPI (M) activists very recently, this murder of SDPI activist has shaken the district. Situation is presently tensed.
Kasargod: Protests against murder of BJP activist turn violent
The protests called by BJP against the murder of BJP activist at Kannur Pinarayi turned violent. Stones were hurled on the district bank and CPM office. The bank's window panes were broken in the stone throwing incidents. BJP activists who went on procession from Karandakkadi hurled stones on the bank near the police station. Police brought the situation under control. Stones were also hurled on the local CPM committee office on M G Road too.
Protesters blocked vehicles plying in the city and Kasargod-Kanhangad road causing anxious moments. Protests brought life to a complete standstill in the district. Buses and other vehicles stayed off the roads. Those vehicles which were driven were forcibly stopped by the protesters. Tyres were set afire and stones were piled on the roads hindering traffic. Shops downed their shutters. Most schools were closed. Staff attendance at government offices was less. Roads were empty. Traffic was completely paralyzed except for a few two wheelers. Passengers who came by trains were put to hardship due to lack of onward transport facilities. Police took precautions to prevent untoward incidents. The protests all over Kerala took place between 6 am and 6 pm. Police have registered cases against ten people. A special team is formed to conduct investigations.
