Tokyo, Oct 13 (IANS): Tokyo shares opened higher on Thursday on the yen's depreciation after the minutes of the US Federal Reserve's September meeting indicated an interest rate hike in near future.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 104.64 points, or 0.62 per cent, from Wednesday to 16,944.64, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 7.76 points, or 0.58 per cent, to 1,350. 11.
Gainers were led by insurance, transportation equipment and real estate issues.
