Mangaluru: Manipuri festival ‘Ningol Chakkouba’ celebrated at Alvas

Mangaluru, Oct 12: The Alva’s Education Foundation along with Manipuri students of Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, and its sister institutions celebrated ‘Ningol Chakkouba’ a premier festival of Manipur that would reinforce the fraternal and protective bond existing between brothers and sisters at AIET Hall, Mijar.

Speaking on the occasion, Manipur former minister and executive board member of North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dr Nara Singh said, “Politics divides the people whereas culture upholds the unity among mankind. Education should nourish such cultural activity and culture for peace should be everyone’s slogan.” 

“Cultural fabric of the country should be always taken care by respective followers of the culture and it is very necessary to assume every individual that they are recruited soldiers of protecting their culture,” he said. 

“Peacefulness in reality, a condition characterized by peaceful cooperation and harmonious conduct of individuals with a view to secure all round development of the country should be our motto.” 

“A world deprived of peace and harmony certainly will fall apart and return to the jungle era in which stronger would prey on the weaker. In this backdrop, the international community has to work very hard for keeping nuclear weapons away from the war, which is really destructive to the mankind,” he added.

Presiding over the function Alva’s Education Foundation Trustee Vivek Alva said, “Youth is the real future of a nation. They can make wonders, if they are nurtured in cohesive environment.”

Prizes were distributed to achievers of various fields of education, sports, cultural in national and international platforms on the occasion. 

The formal function was followed by cultural shows like Maibi dance, Shol chollon, Stick dance, Dasa avatar and Kabui dance by Manipuri students.

Sumptuous food cooked by students consisting of meat items and other traditional dishes of Manipur such as iromba, champhut and kanghou were served in the feast.

Purvanchal Vikas Parsishad Coordinator Pushparaj, Alva’s college of Naturopathy Principal Dr Vanitha Shetty and Lecturer Nandeesh Kumar among others were present.
