Tokyo, Oct 12 (IANS): Tokyo stocks opened lower on Wednesday mirroring losses on Wall Street overnight, with the yen's rise against the US dollar further adding to a dour market mood.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 132.38 points, or 0.78 per cent, from Tuesday to 16,892.38, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 9.81 points, or 0.72 per cent, to 1,346.54.
The majority of industry categories on the main section retreated into negative territory, with iron and steel, mining and banking issues comprising notable decliners.
