Mangaluru, Oct 8: Policemen affiliated to the Kadri police station in the city have arrested two persons who have been accused of snatching gold chains worn by women. Both of them belong to Sullia.
The arrested accused happen to be Muhammed Nizar (25) from Kanathila in Jattipalla, Sullia, and Jurais K M (22) from Gandhinagar Sullia. Two gold chains weighing 21 grammes, two cellphones, and a Honda Dio scooter have been seized from their possession. The arrested men confessed to having snatched away chains from the necks of two pedestrian women in the city on September 16 and 28. The chains, which were sold by them to a jewellery store at Sullia have been taken into possession by the police.
The arrests were made by Kadri station inspector, Maruti G Naik, head constable of criminal intelligence bureau, Venkatesh, and other staff from near KPT Junction on Friday October 7.
A complaint about a ten gramme chain having been snatched from a pedestrian woman opposite Varashree Apartment on Kadri Kambla Road here on September 28, had been received by the policemen. As per the complaint, the thieves, after yanking away the chain, had escaped in a yellow Honda Dio scooter. The policemen began to investigate from the colour and type of vehicle and soon zeroed in on the culprits, it is learnt.
