Mangaluru, Oct 6: Thieves entered a house in Hoige Bazaar in the city in the wee hours of Wednesday October 5 and made good their escape with gold ornaments worth about Rs 1.75 lac. The family of Ratan Kumar became poorer in this incident.
The family members were sleeping in the first floor of the house when the thieves entered their home and stole ornaments. The thieves cut the window rods of a room used by Ratan's daughter. Ratan's daughter had recently gone to Thiruvananthapuram for higher medical education. As such, her room door was locked and door lock was also used.
Ratan and others in the family went to bed at around 11 pm on Tuesday, it is said. The family members, who woke up at 7 am on Wednesday, found it impossible to open the front door. They realized that both the doors were tied together from outside with the help of a cloth. They got suspicion of theft then and checked the possessions. They found that rods of the ground floor window had been cut through by the thieves, who took away ornaments placed in the cupboard in the room.
The thieves took away 80 grams of gold ornaments worth around Rs 1.75 lac, as per complaint filed by Ratan in Pandeshwar police station. The police have registered a case and begun investigation.
