Kalaburagi, Oct 6: A conductor of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) north east division committed suicide at Chincholi in the district on Tuesday October 4 late evening. The victim happened to be Veerappa Bakkappa Meenakera (35), who was working for second unit of KSRTC Bidar district. It is said that he was frustrated at the fact that authorities had imposed fine on him for something which he was not responsible for.
As a result, family members of the deceased, with the support of many locals, held a protest at Chincholi bus stand. The situation had turned tense as a result.
The bus for which Veerappa was the conductor, was bound for Chincholi from Bidar on Tuesday evening. Two drunkards had boarded the bus near Kollur village. Both of them did not buy a ticket even after the conductor insisted on it as they were heavily intoxicated. Even as the conductor continued his effort to convince these two to buy a ticket, the bus arrived at Chincholi bus stand. Ticket checking officials, Hyder Ali and Basavaraj, came into the bus and verified the tickets. After finding that the two drunken passengers did not possess a ticket, they imposed a fine on Veerappa.
The conductor, overwhelmed by a feeling of insult at having been fined for something for which he was not responsible over, used a towel to hang himself from the rod of the bus.
