Czech player Kvitova ends association with coach Cermak

Prague, Sep 7 (IANS): Czech player Petra Kvitova has announced she is ending her associatio0n with coach Frantisek Cermak after the US Open tennis tournament where she was beaten in the fourth round.

Kvitova, 26, two-time Wimbledon winner and a bronze medallist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, on Tuesday said she agreed with Cermak to end their cooperation after returning from America, reports Xinhua.

The Czech player, who is currently ranked 16th in the singles rankings, said for the time being, she will train alone but added that this is naturally not a long-term solution.

She lost against German Angelique Kerber in a fourth-round match at the US Open.

Kvitova had earlier terminated her contract with coach David Kotyza in January after more than seven years of association, following her failure at the Australian Open.

Former doubles player Frantisek Cermak took over from Kotyza as Kvitova's coach from mid-April, after serving as her sparring partner in March.
