Mangalore, Dec 11: “Koinonia 2007”, the Jesus Youth family gathering was organized at seminar hall of Roshni Nilaya, school of Social work, here on Sunday December 9.
There were around 300 participants. The theme of the programme was centered on 'Pro-life'. It was also a time for all the Jesus Youth to come together to celebrate the joy and excitement of the Christmas season.
The ice-breakers and the praise and worship were led by Jeslin, Ian, Prem and the campus team. It was followed by a welcome dance by the Athena Nursing college students. The sessions were taken by Dr Abraham Jacob and Br Johnson Poovathunkal from Kerala.
The speakers outlined the fundamental concepts of the pro-life mentality and gave a detailed explanation on the teaching of the Catholic Church regarding use of contraceptives and birth control. Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, vicar general, Diocese of Mangalore celebrated the solemn mass. Fr Melwyn D'Cunha SJ and Fr Binish were the concelebrants.
There was a very good interactive session with all the parents and elders who had come to attend the programme. Olga Noronha who is one of the pioneers of the Charismatic youth movement in the city was also present. Sr Jacintha D’Souza, principal of Roshini Nilaya School of Social Work, was in all praises for the Jesus Youth and said that more students should be involved with the Jesus Youth.
During the programme there was a anointing programme of the new Nurses team and St Agnes Special School prayer meeting core team. The anointing session was lead by Fr Melwyn D'Cunha SJ. The main highlight of the programme was the Christmas celebration with baby Jesus and the Santa Claus, singing Carols and action songs.
Megna, fulltime volunteer for Manipal and Suraj, fulltime volunteer for Mangalore compered the programme. It was coordinated by Sweety, Jessica and the pro-life team of the city. There was a pro-life exhibition in the campus which was visited by the participants as well as the students of Roshini Nilaya College. Sr Beena, Sr Annie and Sr Lissy were present for the programme. The new prayer cards for the city which was blessed by Fr Peter S Noronha were also distributed.
