‘Solve our Ganesh immersion issue’

Bicholim, Aug 29 (TOI): An unanimous resolution to submit a letter to the Bicholim mamlatdar to find out an amicable solution over the pending dispute pertaining to Ganesh immersion was passed by the villagers during a gramsabha of Latambarcem village panchayat held at the panchayat premises under the guidance of sarpanch Shakuntala Rane.

The meeting was also attended by deputy sarpanch Bablo Gaonkar, secretary Mukesh Naik and other panchayat members.

On this occasion, one of a residents Sunil Siddhaye put forth a demand to undertake instant repairs of steps proceeding to the Ganesh immersion place at Bamanwada, Nanora. He said that 7 lakh has been sanctioned for the same, but the panchayat has not taken any action over this as the owner of the land is raising objection for the same. He therefore suggested that this issue is to be sorted out by the Bicholim mamlatdar as the Ganesh immersion area is a public place. His resolution was supported by all the villagers and passed unanimously.

One more issue discussed was to put wooden gates on the Nanora bandhara. This was proposed by Jose D'Souza and seconded by Dhano Gaonkar. Prakash Vazarkar, a resident, demanded that visiting tourists should be stopped from misusing this bandhara and the gates should be laid thereafter. Finally, this resolution was passed only after the panchayat assured to control tourists first.

The residents also raised their objection when the panchayat secretary read out names of 150 below poverty line (BPL) holders passed in the year 2011 during a survey conducted by the central government. The villagers said that most of the BPL holders are non-Goans and are not locals. Villagers, therefore, demanded that the government should conduct a resurvey of the same. The villagers also demanded that the panchayat keep garbage bins in all nine wards, to repair the road leading to Pene crematorium and also to make a provision of water, to increase the number of street lights in the panchayat area besides solving power cut problems. There was also a demand to repair a road from Usap to Sajulo Gaonkar's house under the national social security scheme. The issues were also put forth by Sajulo Gaonkar and others.
