Donnarumma youngest to join Italian football squad

Rome, Aug 28 (IANS): AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has become the youngest footballer to join the Italian national team in the last 105 years at 17 years, 6 months and 2 days.

Donnarumma broke the record of retired Inter Milan defender Giuseppe Bergomi, who was called up in 1982 at 18 years and 3 months, reports Efe.

The youngest-ever player called up by Italy was Rodolfo Giovannelli, who joined his national team at the age of 16 years, 3  months and 8 days in 1910.

Donnarumma performed superbly with Milan during his side's 3-2 victory last Sunday over Torino in Serie A first round, when he saved a penalty in the last minute of the match.
