European human rights court to consider Russia Paralympians claim

Strasbourg (France), Aug 24 (IANS): The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) may consider a claim of the Russian Paralympians, banned from the upcoming games in Rio, according to an official statement.

ECHR would consider the claim of the Russian Paralympians should they file it, the court said in a statement on Tuesday, reports Sputnik.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the Russian Paralympic Committee's (RPC) appeal against its ban from the upcoming Rio Olympics.

Russian Senator Tatiana Lebedeva suggested that Moscow could file a lawsuit with ECHR.

"All properly submitted claims are examined by the court which will examine whether the claim meets the conditions of admissibility defined by the European Convention on Human Rights before it may be considered substantially," the court said.
