Bangalore , Dec 2: The delegation of peasants from the out skirts of Mangalore who arrived at the state capital on Saturday, December 1 and met the governor, urging him to give up the proposed setting up of Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), in their lands.
The delegation led by members of Agricultural Land Conservation Committee and state Farmers Association, explained the governor, the impacts from setting up of MSEZ).
The district administration has been serving as puppets in the hands of contractors and capitalists who are determined to set up SEZ, in the out skirts of Mangalore, they complained to the governor.
Moreover, they alleged that the setting up of SEZ will have adverse effect on the eco-sensitive coastal area, since the cultivated and fertile lands are likely to be acquired in this regard.
The district administration and MSEZ officials have resorted to dishonest means to project that there lies more number of people who favour the setting up of SEZ than who really oppose, besides they have taken into confidence the college students, in dubious manner. Moreover, the district administration has held the proceedings in English, during the public interaction meet held at St Joseph's Church Auditorium, Bajpe, on Wednesday, November 28, there by disregarded the sensitivity to the common folks, they complained to the governor.
Further, the aggravated protests will be staged, if the project of setting up of SEZ not shelved at the earliest, they cautioned.
