M'lore: Valedictory Function of Platinum Jubilee of CBE on Dec 4

Mangalore, Dec 1: The valedictory function of platinum jubilee celebration of Catholic Board of Education (CBE) of Mangalore Diocese will be held at Milagres PU College Grounds here on Tuesday December 4 at 9.30 am, informed Dr Gerald Pinto at press conference here on Saturday December 1.

He further said that the Christian missionaries imparted the education to the people especially to the rural poor in the church yards. Some Schools were established 300 years ago.

The Bishop of Mangalore was guiding these schools. A need was felt to bring these schools under one umbrella for the purpose of administration. Hence Victor Fernandes, bishop of Mangalore established the CBE in the year, he added.

At present there are 167 primary schools, 47 high schools, 16 pre-university colleges, 5 degree colleges, one technical school and one nursing training school under CBE. About 72 thousands students study and 2,326 people are serving in these institutions, Dr Pinto said.

He further said that platinum jubilee year was inaugurated on Friday July 27.

Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop and president of CBE will preside over the valedictory function. Oscar Fernandes, minister for labour and employment, government of India and M Veerappa Moily, chairman, National Administrative Reforms Commission, government of India will be the chief guests, he informed.

Fr Wilson V D’Souza, secretary, Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, director, Canara Communication Centre and M P Noronha, advocate and member of Governing Council CBE were present at the press meet.
