Margao, Dec 1: South Goa district administration, at the behest of High Court, on Wednesday evening sealed two polluting units of Cuncolim industrial estate.
Residents of Cuncolim had protested many times to demand shut-down of these units, as their hazardous waste creates health-related problems.
In compliance of the High Court directive, South Goa collector G P Naik issued the order for closure of the two units – Sunrise Zinc and Nicomet Industries.
The Goa State Pollution Control Board had directed the district administration to act upon the High Court order.
This industry duo was asked to suspend operations, until they conformed with the rules and regulations laid down the Pollution Control Board.
They have been asked to set up landfill site for disposal of hazardous waste.
Salcette mamlatdar Paresh Faldessai and Cuncolim police were present during the sealing operations.
