No Decision yet on Russia's admission to Rio Paralympic Games

Moscow, Aug 7 (IANS): The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has not yet announced its decision on Russia's admission to the 2016 Rio Games, its director of media and communications Craig Spence has said.

Some media reports on Saturday said the Russian team would be suspended from Paralympic Games in the wake of a report alleging state-run doping in Russia, reports Sputnik.

"IPC has not announced any decision on the membership status of the Russian Paralympic Committee. The announcement is on Sunday," Spence wrote on his Twitter account on Saturday.

In July, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) urged the IPC to suspend Russian team from the Paralympic Games slated for September 7-18 in Rio following a report of its independent commission led by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren, alleging that Russia had run a state-controlled doping programme.

On Wednesday, the IPC said in a statement that its President Philip Carven would hold a press conference on Sunday to announce the decision on the membership status of the Russian team.
