Mangalore Nov 26: The inaugural function of the administrative office and guest house of farmers and employees was held here at the Krishi Vignan Kendra (KVK) on Sunday, November 25.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) deputy director P Das speaking on the occasion informed that the ICAR is planning on setting up a soil and water quality-testing centre at the KVK in the City.

Das also stated that apart from the quality test centre, Insat IA will be connected to the city KVK centre with a view to providing an impetus for research and study. According to him, if agriculture becomes a lucrative proposition it would provide good income, making farmers self sufficient and financially sound.

Another speaker on the occasion was the vice-chancellor of Bangalore Agriculture University P G Chengappa who appreciated the activities at the city KVK and made a promise to ensure that even the Udupi centre would be modernized. Referring to the city KVK he remarked that “Of the KVKs in the state, Mangalore centre stands second.”

There was a protest a little earlier by the Raita Sangha members who were protesting against the setting up of the Special Economic Zone, and in view of this some of them lamented that the government was acquiring land, claiming it to be barren. And therefore demanded that a study should be done to ensure if the said land is barren or not.
