Udupi, Nov 25: The 74th All-India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held from December 12 to 15th will be a grand success, confidently predicted Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade here on Saturday November 24.
Heggade was speaking after inspecting the main ‘Mantapa’ at the venue of the Sammelan. According to him, every thing is presently looking bright for the Kannada language. The circulation of Kannada dailies was soaring and now the sale of Kannada books too has increased in literary meets. However, in this context he remarked that the moot point to be addressed was whether future generations would retain the same interest in Kannada language and literature, or not.
Heggade further said that Sammelan is a literary fair, and there is nothing wrong in having a ‘fair’ kind of atmosphere. The important aspect is that people should participate and enjoy the literary discussions at the Sammelan. Further he informed that he had been requested to inaugurate the Sammelan and was therefore looking forward to it.
On December 7 to December 9 the platinum jubilee celebration of Sarva Dharma Sammelan would be organized at Dharmasthala and there the Kannada Sahitya Sammelan would also be held as a part of the platinum jubilee celebration on December 8.
The platinum jubilee celebration ceremony will be inaugurated by Sant Haridasji Maharaj of Santaram Mandir Nadiad of Gujarat, who will inaugurate the function and Swami Mahadeshwarananda Puri from Haridwar would inaugurate the Sarva Dharma Sammelan on December 8. Valedictory address will be delivered by former president A P J Abdul Kalam.
