MANGALORE, Nov 25: How about a cartoon that features you? If you think it is not a bad idea, you could head straight to Kadri Park and be part of an art fair, which got off to start on Saturday.
Be warned, Sunday is the last day, and cartoonist Harishchandra Shetty, also known as Harini, lends a touch of wit when he does on-the-spot caricatures of those who are willing to pose for him at his stall.
If sand carving is something that you always wanted to see, this is the right place to be. A sand carving made by a team from Udupi at the entrance to Kadri Park invariably grabs one’s attention. The seemingly endless display of art works in different hues and shades strung neatly against a white background, both inside and outside the park, compels one to take a look.
As many as 250 artistes from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and neighbouring Kasaragod have come together to participate in the Kudla Kalavali Kalamela, a two-day art exhibition being organised by S.S. Creations for the first time in Mangalore.
The exhibition is modelled largely on the lines of the Chitra Santhe organised by the Chitrakala Parishat in Bangalore.

The exhibits in 200-odd stalls set up on either flank of the road in front of the All India Radio station here bear testimony to the wealth of talent of the artistes, both juniors and seniors, on display. More than 5,000 paintings, artefacts and other items are up for public viewing and sale.
“The event has enabled me to showcase 75 works of my students.,” artist L.K. Shevgoor says.
For Rohit S. Rao, an entrepreneur, the event has given him an opportunity to showcase some of his wildlife photography. While demonstrations on landscape painting and portrait painting were held on the opening day, the organisers have arranged for demonstrations on photography, collage making and murals on Sunday. A painting competition was organised for primary school students immediately after the inaugural function on Saturday.
Students from high schools will get an opportunity to showcase their painting skills at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
