Kundapur, Nov 23: An exciting fire fighting through a mock demonstration recently took place in the playground of government PU College of Koteshwar.
It was a nerve breaking experience for the locals where a fake thatched house was set on fire and in no time the fire brigade as if from no where swung into action and doused the flames.
In another mock rehearsal some fire fighters went up the high rise building and the fire victim finding it hard to breathe was soon carried down safely and given the first aid to great relief of helpless spectators and there after the ambulance took him to the hospital.
The entire mock exhibition was under taken under the joint auspices of the fire brigade Kundapura Unit and the Koteshwar Rotract Club, under the leadership of V Sunder, fire station master of Kundapur.
The demonstration that had sent shivers in the spines of the passers lasted for an hour. It was a good practical lesson for the school boys and girls. They had seen the live demonstrations of gas cylinders exploding, dousing the oil catching fire, fighting and putting out fire found in building of 60-70 height and above all the precautionary measures to be taken in such eventualities.
Among the fire brigade staff were Subraya Balegara, assistant fire station master, Srinivasa Poojary, driver and the operator of fire engine and the other staff members Balakrishna, Paramesh, Bhaskar Kharvi, Sunil Khandela and Sudhakara B Gowda.
Deviprasad Shetty, JDS president, Udupi District Unit inaugurated the event. K Karthikeya Madhyastha, president Rotract Koteshwara presided over the function. Raju Devadiga, president Kundapur taluk panchayat, and Abhinandana A Shetty, president Rotract district spoke on the occasion.
Bhaskhra Shetty, president Rotary Club, Koteshwar, Denis Banz, principal, Koteshwar, government. PU College were present on the dais. Rotract Ravindra Navada monitored the program. Shankara Naik proposed the vote of thanks.
